55 Years ago the world was introduced to the Mustang and in 2020 we are introduced to the most powerful production car to ever hit the streets from Ford. The 2020 Mustang GT500. The current generation of the Mustang has been around for 5 years now at its core but each year Ford gives us just a bit more to keep us coming back to yearn for the opportunity to jump behind the wheel. So let’s take a closer look at the 2020 Mustang.

The 2020 Mustang is more of a sports car than a muscle car these days and that is apparent by the use of a 2.3L 4 cylinder EcoBoost as its base engine. While this engine only has half of the cylinders when you traditionally think of the Mustang, this engine is no joke. For 2020 Ford has boosted the performance out of this little engine with technology learned in the Focus RS application. When you outfit your EcoBoost Mustang with the High-Performance Package you get 330 horsepower, 350 lb.-ft. of torque, an active exhaust with quad tips, 90% of available torque from 3,000 rpm to redline, the most powerful in-line four-cylinder in America, and the most powerful EcoBoost ever in a Mustang! While you can get a 10-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters for quick and accurate up and downshifts you can also opt for the traditional 3 pedals and a standard shift transmission to connect the driver to the car. If you just can’t part with the roar of a V8, the tried and true Coyote 5.0L is available in the GT with 460 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. of torque at your disposal. Step up to the Bullitt and you get 480 horsepower, or go for the Shelby GT350 and you get a high revving flat-plane crank 5.2L Voodoo engine with 526 Horsepower and 429 lb.-ft. of torque. And in the all-new for 2020 Shelby GT500 the 5.2L get the supercharger treatment bringing the horsepower total to 760 and 625 lb.-ft. of torque. The GT00 also features another first for Ford with its Tremec 7 speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. This dual-clutch technology usually only found in high-end European Supercars allows for lightning-quick up and downshifts.

The design of the current Mustang is a departure from the old, a hint of a throwback, and quintessentially Ford all at the same time. With its long flowing smooth yet shapely lines the Mustang has the look and feel of a sleek European grand tourer more so than an American Muscle car. The DRL tri-bar accents in the headlights and the tribar tail lights throwback to the Mustangs of old so you know what’s coming in the rearview and what just passed as it goes by. As Ford’s upcoming lone surviving passenger car the Mustang will continue to carry the weight of the Ford badge. On the interior, you get soft-touch, leather stitched, and aluminum accents throughout the cabin. Giving you a luxury feel on the Premium and higher trim levels. Heated and ventilated seats are available as well as a heated steering wheel for additional creature comforts. The 12 inch fully customizable instrument cluster allows you to add a personal touch to your Mustang by selecting your own colors, and gauge layout to display the information most important to you. You can also switch drive modes which will reflect in the gauges giving you easier to read tach info when in sports and track modes. Standard on all models, performance metrics are instantly provided in the instrument cluster. You can display g-forces, acceleration times, and lap times, plus automatic and countdown starts. Also included are features like electronic line-lock and launch control.

Safety is not a forgotten element when Ford designs its performance-driven machines. The Ford Safe and Smart package is available on the Mustang and features a suite of driver-assist technologies that includes Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking, Auto High Beam headlamps, Lane-Keeping System, Adaptive Cruise Control and rain-sensing wipers. Smart tech also includes the hands-free voice-activated SYNC 3 system. With the touch of a button, you can give SYNC voice commands to locate your favorite restaurant, nearby gas, or set a destination through navigation. If you wish the capacitive touch screen features smartphone-like navigation with swipe motion and you can connect your smartphone to SYNC 3 via apple car play and android auto. Once connected if you prefer you can use Waze for navigation as well. With FordPass Connect, drivers and passengers can enjoy an in-vehicle 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. FordPass is an app you can download on your phone to stay connected to your Mustang from afar. You can lock and unlock and even remote start automatic transmission models. You can keep up with maintenance and book appointments at your nearest Ford Dealer.
