The Lincoln brand continues its resurgence and rises to the top of the luxury market food chain with its latest model introduction, the 2020 Aviator. With the Aviator, Lincoln builds upon the already proven top of their class Continental and Navigator. However, the Aviator takes things to a whole new level. The 2020 is a long, far and away leap from the last time we saw the Aviator nameplate from Lincoln. Let’s learn more….

The Aviator takes design cues from its big brother the Navigator. But in this smaller but impressive package the Aviator ticks all of the right boxes. It looks low and wide which gives it a muscular appearance. The roof line narrows towards the rear showing movement and sportiness in the design. The LED lighting all-round presents a touch of elegance, especially when approaching when the sun has set. The Lincoln embrace illuminates the Aviator to welcome you back. The signature star mesh grille commands power and the overall appearance reminds us of classic luxury design. The style also meets practicality and innovation with features like the door handles which actually to not pull out but rather hides a button inside that electronically opens the door when pressed. The available air glide suspension uses air blatters to not only smooth out your drive with preset heights but also enhances the look of the Aviator while sitting still at showroom height. And also when you approach the Aviator to enter, along with the Lincoln embrace the vehicle will lower even further to Entry Height making it easier to enter and load up cargo.

The interior of the 2020 Aviator is a very serene and comfortable place to be. From the moment you open the door, you realize that the Aviator is unlike anything on the road not only from sight but sound. The Aviator uses chimes and attention-getting musical alerts composed by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra to provide soothing and melodic sounds opposed to annoying traditional buzzes and beeps. Once inside you can position the perfect position seats to your precise liking with 30 different ways to adjust from the leg extensions to bolsters, to the head restraints. And if that is not comforting enough they also feature massage ability with active motion to melt stress away. The craftsmanship is unmatched with the use of rich leathers, carefully selected open-pore woods, with aluminum trim and easy to read and reach controls that not only capture your eye but your imagination as well.  The Aviator features a wireless charging pad inside the center console under the armrest to keep your phone out of sight and out of mind but fully charged once you reach your destination. The Aviator’s passenger rows offer seating for up to seven people with a second row bench. But you can also opt for captain’s chairs in the second row with a center console or a pass-through with a mini console. The captain’s chairs also feature a power fold tilt and slide to easily access the third row. The third row features power fold technology so with the push of a button you can lower the seats to provide 41.8 cubic feet of cargo room behind the second row and 77.7 cubic feet with all rows folded flat.

When it comes to power the Aviator provides class-leading numbers unheard of in the segment. The gasoline Reserve model offers a standard Twin-Turbocharged 3.0L V6 engine that creates 400 hp and 415 lb.-ft. of torque. However, The Aviator Grand Touring combines the same 3.0L V6 gas engine with an all-new to Lincoln electric powertrain to deliver outstanding performance. This combination provides up to 450 horsepower and more than 600 lb.-ft. of torque! Aviator Grand Touring hybrid powertrain can also be plugged in to charge at home or other charging stations. Once charged, the Aviator Grand Touring can be driven in an electric-only mode. Speaking of drive modes, there’s a drive mode to match your mood and road conditions. Lincoln Drive Modes, can be easily selected by simply turning this knob in the center front console, you can alter the suspension settings, steering, shift points and even ride heights with the available Air Glide Suspension. In addition to the main five modes, Aviator Grand Touring has two additional modes: Pure EV for a quiet all-electric drive and Preserve EV to save stored energy for later use. The rear-wheel-drive platform in the Lincoln Aviator was designed to also accommodate all-wheel drive. Doing so gives you the option to choose what best meets your needs: the feel of rear-wheel drive, or the confident grip of available all-wheel drive. The Aviator features a 20.2-gallon fuel tank in the gas variation with an EPA estimated 18 city, 26 highway, 21 combined MPG rear wheel drive, losing 1 MPG each when equipped with all wheel drive. The Grand Touring Hybrid numbers are not yet released. The Aviator is fitted with Lincoln’s tried and true 10 speed automatic and features auto start-stop technology and paddle shifters. For those that want to tow, you get a maximum capacity of 6,700lbs with the gas engine and that drops to 5,600 lbs in the grand touring hybrid model.

The 2020 Aviator introduces many new firsts for Lincoln in the realm of technology. Like the phone as a key feature. This allows you to use your smartphone through the Lincoln Way app and program your smartphone to act as the key. Your phone will grant you entry to your vehicle and even start and drive it away, handy if you forget or lose your key fob or if you just want to travel light. If your phone should lose power a simple backup code allows you to gain access and start/drive your Aviator. Active Park assist plus will park your Aviator with just a few presses of buttons on your Sync screen. You no longer even have to control the brakes or accelerator. The Aviator also introduces pixel LED headlamps that at highway speeds, lighting is designed to shine light farther into the distance; at slower speeds, the light array widens, helping drivers to detect pedestrians and potential hazards. Light-bending functionality uses camera technology to read road signs and lane markings to pre-illuminate the direction the road is heading. This same road sign reading technology picks up speed signs and will adjust your cruise control speeds as well. The first-ever 28 speaker Revel Ultima 3D audio system is available in the Aviator providing unmatched sound quality and listening experience. Other carry-over technologies ensure the Aviator is at the forefront when it comes to features and tech expected from a quality brand such as Lincoln. Features like the heads up display that is readable even while wearing polarized sunglasses. This display shows you the most important information like current speed, speed limit, distance to empty, current running gear, temperature, adaptive cruise settings, lane-keeping, and navigation route and distance. The SYNC 3 system provides one of the best infotainment experiences with standard features such as android auto, apple car play, Waze integration, and Amazon Alexa integration. You can also use app link to get the most out of your smartphone pairing, not to mention media playback with satellite and HD radio, vehicle control settings and more at arm’s reach. The Aviator is fitted with 4G LTE WIFI through the Lincoln Connect embedded modem. You can connect up to ten devices and use them from up to 50 feet away from the vehicle. For safety technology, the Lincoln Co-Pilot 360 Plus gives you the ease of mind tech when it comes to on-road safety. Adaptive cruise control allows you to set a distance to the vehicle in front of you and will slow, stop and resume with traffic flow and now includes road sign and speed recognition. Evasive steering assist will help you apply the brakes and give the vehicle greater stability when you have to make an evasive maneuver in case of emergency. Another Lincoln first is reverse brake assist. IF the rear sensors detect an obstacle behind your while reversing the system can automatically apply the brakes to help you avoid a collision.

The 2020 Aviator is starting a new class of its own. With the looks, technology, performance, and all that comes with, the Aviator is ready to take flight and not look back.
