It's our job to make sure you find the right vehicle for you. Below we've created a chart so you can gather helpful information on these two vehicles at a quick glance, with some more detailed explanations below.

2016 Ford Explorer vs. 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The Explorer and the Grand Cherokee both offer three unique options to balance both power and fuel efficiency. In terms of horsepower, the Explorer's 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 wins with a whopping 365 horsepower. For the Grand Cherokee, the comparable 5.7-liter V8 engine will only reach a maximum of 360 horsepower.

Ford also offers a 290 horsepower 3.5-liter V6 which is comparable to the 3.6-liter V6 engine that is available from Jeep.

Lastly, those looking at the Ford Explorer will find a 2.3-liter EcoBoost four cylinder engine. Comparably, the Jeep Grand Cherokee offers a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6. The four-cylinder engine in the Explorer maxes out at 280 horsepower while the larger diesel engine in the Grand Cherokee maxes out at just 240 horsepower.

A noticeable difference between these two vehicles is the fact that the 2016 Ford Explorer has available seating for up to seven passengers while the 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee seats only five passengers.

Additionally, the Explorer provides for up to 81.7 cubic feet of cargo room and 151.6 cubic feet of passenger volume. The Grand Cherokee, on the other hand, provides for only 68.3 cubic feet of cargo room and 105.4 cubic feet of passenger volume. This is quite a sizable difference.

The Ford Explorer offers a SYNC with MyFord Touch infotainment system that allows you to take advantage of features such HD Radio and navigation, all on an 8-inch display. An available 12-speaker, 500-watt premium sound system that uses Live Acoustics and Clear Phase audio will allow you to enhance sound and provide for a very unique experience.

A 5-inch touchscreen Uconnect system comes standard on the Jeep Grand Cherokee. Optional upgrades include navigational capabilities and a larger display. The Grand Cherokee features just six speakers on four out of the seven trim levels. However, there are also two additional audio packages, including a nine-speaker system, and those are standard on just two of the trim levels.

2016 Ford Explorer vs. 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The 2016 Ford Explorer and 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee are both vehicles with numerous engine and interior options. However, the Explorer does offer a larger interior space with better stock options. If you're looking for the vehicle that will allow you to carry more of your crew and cargo without sacrificing on power and efficiency then the Explorer would be your best option.
