Both of these SUVs contain plenty of power with their 3.5-liter V6 engines. The Ford Explorer has an additional option for a 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine. With the turbo V6 engine, the Explorer is capable of 365 horsepower.

Those looking for a Honda Pilot will have to stick with a V6 engine and slightly higher mileage.

The Explorer and Pilot both come standard with a six-speed automatic transmission.

Ford made a number of suspension tweaks for the 2016 Ford Explorer. These provide for an incredibly composed handling experience for the size of the SUV. Such handling is especially helpful on Virginia's hills and rural areas.

The Pilot does experience slightly more sway than the Explorer while going around turns.

The Explorer contains a larger interior space allowing taller passengers more room. It's also important to keep in mind that the seats on the Explorer can be tucked away into the well underneath. The SUV features Bluetooth, USB connections, and a rearview camera. Not to mention voice commands via Ford SYNC technology.

While the Pilot contains premium seating similar to those found in the Explorer, passengers will find themselves in a smaller area inside the vehicle. Additionally, the seats in the Pilot fold down but do not fold under. The Pilot also features Bluetooth, USB connections, and a rearview camera.

2016 Ford Explorer vs. 2016 Honda Pilot

The 2016 Ford Explorer and 2016 Honda Pilot are powerful SUVs that are loaded with features. Each of these SUVs is apt to conquer any surface it encounters. Despite that, the Explorer does have more features and more options than the Pilot. If you're looking for the SUV that will allow you to carry more of your crew and cargo, the Explorer is your best option.
