The performance found on these vehicles is quite similar. The 2016 Ford Edge and 2016 Acura MDX both offer 3.5-liter V-6 engines, putting out just under 300 horsepower. And, both 3.5-liter engines are rated the same in fuel economy.

It is important to note that the Edge does provide buyers with additional choices in selecting an engine that those looking toward the MDX will not find. The 2016 Edge offers an alternative engine choice with enhanced efficiently as well as another that offers more power.

Interior Features

Each vehicle contains a number of standard features that we've come to appreciate in our vehicles. Those shopping for the Edge or MDX will find Bluetooth, a rearview camera, a USB port, and push-button start on each vehicle for their entry-level trim package.

However, the 2016 Ford Edge also offers Ford's unique SYNC system which allows for drivers to adjust settings without even taking their hands off of the wheel. Additionally, Ford offers MyKey technology which allows parents to adjust the vehicle settings in order to offer a safer driving experience for their children.

Cabin and Cargo

Both the 2016 Ford Edge and 2016 Acura MDX contain luxury-level interiors. However, the vehicles do differ in the amount of seating available. The Edge allocates two rows for seating up to five passengers while the MDX offers three rows with seating for up to seven passengers. However, as one could imagine, fitting three rows inside a midsize SUV does not allow much room for adult passengers. Total passenger volume for the Edge is 187.3 cubic feet while only 132.3 cubic feet for the MDX. The added third row in the MDX certainly comes at a price.

Additionally, those looking to purchase a midsize SUV will have available cargo space to keep in mind. The 2016 Ford Edge offers 39.2 cubic feet behind the back row of seats while the 2016 Acura MDX offers only 15.8 cubic feet behind the back row (less than half of the space found in the Edge).

2016 Ford Edge vs. 2016 Acura MDX

The 2016 Ford Edge and the 2016 Acura MDX each offer a unique midsize SUV. The engines perform similarly, and while the MDX does offer additional seating, it comes at the price of available spacing. The Ford Edge includes interior technology not found anywhere else, allows for superior spacing, and even offers additional choices in the way of engines. The 2016 Ford Edge seems to be the clear winner here.
